A friend in another city suggested that we game together remotely, and I felt a pang. Netflix and novels couldn’t distract me from scrolling through the news or counting the fibers in my couch pillows. I quit gaming outright, and I mostly stayed away as adulthood unfolded- until the boring horror of 2020’s shutdowns arrived. But then one week during my sophomore year in high school, a realization hit me: Spending so much time questing on a screen might get in the way of other quests-for a driver’s license, a social life, a career. Much of my childhood was spent in that silvery chute, where I commanded alien armies and cast spells.

The likes of Minecraft and Zelda turn the drag of time into a silvery chute you drop into and emerge from after hours in a state of flow. If the point of life was simply to enjoy the moment that you’re in, we’d all be playing video games constantly. I loved this game as a kid, and was really disappointed when I realized modern windows couldn't support it. I'm pretty sure this is a problem only because the cinematics are not working, not for advisors, not for wonders built, and now, not for losing the game.
Except that today I realized that, while you can win the game fine and it will give you the ending statistics, no problem if you lose, that is, if your civilization is wiped out, the lose ending is a cinematic that will never run, so the game hangs. I miss the advisors short video clips, but otherwise the game works fine. It doesn't have all that background music that I loved, but has all the other audio and a nice stroll down memory lane of over a decade ago.

this version works on my win 8.1 64 bit completely without any action, these good people earned a donation for excelent work, they do what the rest of the net could not. After this, continue the procedure on PlayOnMac and select the civ2.exe file as a shortcut.įinally my true love is back. Before you click on anything else on PlayOnMac, move the entire game folder to the "dosdevices>c/" folder that PlayOnMac created on your user folder when "installing" the civ2.exe file. You need to "install" using the civ2.exe file, and it will give you an error message. To play the game you need to use a windows emulator and run the windows version.

Hope you will update Civ II Test of Time with colonization of Alpha Centaurus.Īwesome, awesome, awesome game. Graphic is a bit crude but active piece "flash" much better than with the original. This updated version works like a charm on a Windows 11, DELL Latitude, computer. I kept a windows XP computer for years just to play Civ II Test of Time. I bought my cope of this game in 1996 and I think I haven't watched the opening movie in over 25 years! So, thanks again! The browser version didn't have the music and videos. I had previously been opening a browser-based version of the game to run but stopped working.
Wow! I am impressed and VERY thankful that there are people like you with a coding background that can keep these games running! I opened on WIN10 with no issues.
